The Website of Gulftex Scuba is Under Construction but here's a brief note "about us" and a few related links.
Gulftex Scuba was formally chartered in July 1993 to meet the needs of the upstart Technical Diving field in the Gulf region. Prior to this time many recreational SCUBA shops had never even HEARD of Nitrox or Trimix, let alone embraced it. In fact the Dive Equipment & Manufacturer's Association trade show barred the exhibition of any nitrox-related equipment or information at their 1994 Trade Show and Convention. They wanted no part of the Voodoo-Gas revolution!
As the first technical diving facility in the region we were contracted in August of 1993 to provide dozens of cylinders of Nitrox to researchers and photographers aboard the M/V Fling for one of the initial Flower Gardens Marine Sanctuary's coral-spawning research trips. After that point Gulftex Scuba went on to train hundreds of Open-Water divers in the safe and proper use of alternate breathing gases such as Nitrox and Trimix.
Shortly after the year 2000 Gulftex Scuba referred our diver-training role to other qualified individuals and began a decade-long focus on Exploration and Equipment Manufacturing. During that period we have explored dozens of underwater caves while developing some of the industry's most hardened technical dive gear.
Our exploration efforts reached a milestone in July of 2008 when we successfully explored the Goodenough Springs Cave System to a depth of 515 feet in coordination with the Goodenough Springs Exploration Project (see GSEP link below). The GSEP continued its exploration and research efforts with the recent publication of related study results in the Hydrogeology Journal. And more project work is under way there.
Gulftex Scuba's sister-company (Gulftex Scuba Products) has designed and sold thousands and thousands of our heralded Stainless-steel DIN plugs, used to safeguard expensive dive gases under transport. For an image of our Stainless Steel DIN Plugs please click here.
Another of our groundbreaking products is the Photon-Torpedo backup light for cave divers. This rock-solid high-output light was the first in the field to utilize LED emitters as the light source, enhancing reliability and burn-time. Since 2001 Gulftex Scuba has concentrated on its core business of providing equipment and support services to the technical, cave, and scientific diving communities. As a non-recreational diving business we do not provide the services normally associated with local dive shops. What we do provide are the resources and expertise to facilitate mission-oriented diving operations.
We are located in the Pearland, TX area and provide on-site consultations by appointment.
